- Description
- This is a story of Newcastle Medical School through the critical gaze of radicalism. The aim is to explore the notion of radicalism within the conservative profession of medicine in relation to a conventional university structure. During the late 1970s and through the 1980s the Newcastle Medical School established an educational model that contributed to the radical Newcastle of that era. The cultural slippage between the progressive national zeitgeist of the post-Whitlam era and the conservatism of Newcastle's blue-collar and professional societies provided spaces for intellectual radicalism to flourish, and within medicine for this radicalism to influence the trajectory of medical education at a national level.
